Who are the qualifications for?
For learners who work, or want to work as teachers or trainers in the Lifelong Learning Sector (LLS). It is mandatory for those wishing to enter teaching in the regulated LLS in England. PTLLS is widely recognised as the standard for those beginning to teach in the non regulated sector in England, as well as in other nations.

What do the qualifications cover?
They allow learners to learn knowledge and skills required to enter teaching.

Are the qualifications part of a framework or initiative?
They are part of a framework of qualifications for teachers in England. They do not form part of an Apprenticeship Framework.

Who did we develop the qualifications with?
The qualifications were developed with The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS).

What opportunities for progression are there?  
They allow learners to progress into employment as teachers/trainers, as well as to the following City & Guilds qualifications:
• Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
• Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTTLS)

This qualification is aimed at all in-service, pre-service and pre-employment teachers, trainers and tutors in the Lifelong Learning sector or suitably qualified people who wish to enter the profession. This award is designed for those who will undertake an Associate Teacher Role, which carries fewer teaching responsibilities than the full role. The quality of teaching is expected to be of an equally high standard. This is a Level 4 qualification with 24 credits. The Certificate comprises 3 mandatory units (of which PTTLS is Unit 1) and an optional unit. There is a minimum requirement of 30 hours of teaching practice. Credits from CTTLS can be carried into the Diploma.

International ESOL Diploma (City & Guilds 9992)
The International ESOL Diploma (9992) is a combination of City & Guilds International ESOL (8984) and International Spoken ESOL (8985). The qualification assesses all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
The diploma can be taken at six levels and was developed from the Common European Framework (CEF).
Assessment is covered by taking two papers:
•    International Spoken ESOL (8985) which assesses real speaking ability through a one to one structured interview
•    International ESOL (8984) – a single exam paper which covers listening, reading and writing.
The testing is on demand, so a candidate and centre can choose their own dates.

This corresponds to the full teacher role and is the equivalent of the CertEd or PGCE. The qualification can lead to Qualified Teacher in the Learning and Skills (QTLS) status once combined with continuing professional development and a period of professional formation. It is a Level 5 award with 120 credits. The Diploma comprises Part 1 and Part 2 and there is a requirement for 150 hours of teaching. There are 7 mandatory units (PTLLS is Unit 1) and 2 optional units. This course is achievable over 1 year full time study or 2/3 years part time study.

This qualification is open to all in-service, pre-service and pre-employment teachers, trainers and tutors in the Lifelong Learning sector, or suitably qualified people who wish to enter the profession. The Diploma is designed for those who are able to undertake a full teaching role having responsibility for learners throughout the learning process and engaging in teaching on a range of academic levels within their subject specialism.

Full Award trainees would be expected to use resources they have designed and evaluated, deliver learning across a range of levels, subjects and learner types, and contribute to a range of programmes of varying lengths.

Portable Appliance Testing is a course offered by Future Training that allows all candidates, with experience or not, to increase their knowledge in this field and undertake inspection and testing of electrical equipment. Every electrical equipment in a commerical environement is required to be PAT tested this 1 day course covers everything neccessary to achieve the City & Guild certification.

Future Training now offers a 4 day course in Inspection Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations aimed at practicing electrical professionals who carry out regular testing and inspecting as well as completing inspection reports. This City and Guilds approved course provides detailed technical tutoring in all aspects of the course.

All commercial buildings will require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) when bought, sold, built or rented as of October 1st, 2008. These can only be obtained through inspection by a qualified, licensed assessor.

Future Training is now offering a comprehensive 5 day training course to ensure qualification and licensing to become a level 4 Non-Domestic Energy Assessor (NDEA). An assessor at this level of qualification can assess level 3 & 4 buildings which have simple and complex structure, multiple heating and ventilation systems.

The course is delivered over 1 day with all the information you require to complete the qualification. This is a single unit qualification, assessed by a 40 question multiple-choice examination. Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 28/40

Since October 1^st 2008 public buildings in the UK must display a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) at all times. These DECs are designed to improve energy efficiency within public buildings however certificates can only be given by an accredited assessor.

As of June 2010 additional physical intervention training is required to become a licenced and qualified door supervisor. The Green Deal

This is a new coalition Government initiative where householders will be eligible for energy advice from a qualified Green Deal Advisor.

The Energy Act 2011 has now been passed and all households and businesses will be entitled to an energy efficiency assessment as part of the Green Deal, due to come into effect in October 2012. An accredited Green Deal Advisor (GDA) will produce the assessment. The Green Deal will provide a finance mechanism enabling the cost of energy efficiency measures installed to be paid back via the energy bill. Accredited installers will install the measures to specific standards. This should ensure the energy efficiency measures deliver genuine energy bill and carbon savings and consumers should therefore have confidence in the advice, products and services they receive. Once the energy efficiency improvements have been installed, a charge will be added to the energy meter at the property. This charge will enable the occupier to repay any Green Deal finance that was taken out via their energy bill. The repayment obligation will sit with the property and transfer to any new occupier.

The Golden Rule

The key principle, or "Golden Rule", for accessing Green Deal finance is that the charge attached to the bill should not exceed the expected savings, and the length of the payment period should not exceed the expected lifetime of the measures. This is not a government guarantee, but a guideline for customers to expect a more efficient, less wasteful property with no additional net cost from the Green Deal.

The Green Deal & EPCs

EPCs and the accompanying Recommendation Reports are expected to play a major part in the delivery of the Green Deal. There are already changes (not related to the Green Deal) due to come into effect on 6th April 2012 (please see the link below for details) and we have been advised that it is likely that a number of further changes will come into force prior to October 2012 as EPCs are extended and incorporated into the Green Deal programme. According to the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) the full details of the Green Deal will be made known in Spring 2012, once the necessary secondary legislation has been approved by Parliament. Therefore full and comprehensive training and advice cannot be offered until after this date and any EPCs produced prior to this date may not be suitable for Green Deal purposes.

Training for GDA’s

As the training requirements have not been finalised there will be no fully accredited Green Deal Assessors until early 2012. We advice all of our students, past and present, to exercise caution in getting involved in any form of training prior to the official publication of the National Occupational Standards and the required qualification for Green Deal Advisors is announced by the Government.
